FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Are your eggs certified by the Ohio Department of Agriculture Division of Food Safety?
Yes, we are certified as a Small Egg Distributor with the Ohio Department of Agriculture Division of Food Safety.
  • Do Chickpea Farm chickens free-range at their leisure?
Yes, our chickens free-range at their leisure on 6 acres free of fertilizers or treatments. They are offered the highest-quality supplemental feed and lay eggs according to sunlight without the use of artificial light.
  • Why Pygmy goat milk?
Pygmy goat milk is preferred for its high nutritional value due to the goats' excellent foraging abilities. The milk has a high butterfat content, making it ideal for producing soaps, creams, and other high-fat goat milk products. Once our goats are milked, the milk is filtered three times, then frozen immediately to maintain its nutrients.
  • Why does Chickpea Farm use lye in soap making?
Lye, also known as sodium hydroxide or caustic soda, is essential in soap making as it undergoes saponification, the process of converting fats or oils into soap. While lye can be hazardous in its raw form, it is neutralized during saponification, ensuring that the final soap product does not contain lye. Many soap companies omit lye from their ingredient lists due to consumer misconceptions, but it is a crucial component in the soap-making process.
  • Why does Chickpea Farm use organic unrefined virgin oils in its soaps?
At Chickpea Farm, we prioritize the quality and purity of our ingredients, which is why we use organic unrefined virgin oils. Unrefined oils are extracted from seeds or nuts using mechanical pressure and low temperatures, maintaining their natural properties. Unlike refined oils, which undergo extensive mechanical and chemical processes to remove impurities, odors, and flavors, unrefined oils preserve their natural nutrients and flavors. This approach not only aligns with our commitment to organic and natural products but also ensures that our customers receive the highest quality products. By choosing unrefined oils, we're providing a healthier, more authentic, and environmentally friendly option for our valued customers.
  • Q: Why does Chickpea Farm only use essential oils in its products?
A: At Chickpea Farm, we are committed to providing our customers with natural, high-quality products. This commitment is why we exclusively use essential oils rather than fragrance oils. While the terms "essential oil" and "fragrance oil" are often used interchangeably, they are fundamentally different substances. Essential oils are derived directly from plants through processes such as distillation or cold pressing, ensuring that they retain the beneficial properties of the plant. In contrast, fragrance oils are synthetically created in labs and may contain chemicals that do not offer the same natural benefits. By using only essential oils, we ensure that our products are free from artificial additives and provide the genuine therapeutic benefits associated with natural plant extracts. This aligns with our ethos of promoting wellness and sustainability, offering our customers a purer, healthier choice for their skincare and household needs.
